For
films and animation screenings,
installation, live and interactive cross-media works
The
Projection Gallery – collective artist's film group
The
Projection Gallery is a showing collective for the exhibition
and publicity of the best in artist's film.
Based in East London, UK, we were established in 2004 and hold
a database and collection of over 170 artist's films,
and exhibit them in contemporary art spaces.
Our
exhibitions showcase films and art of the highest quality, bringing
new works of international standing to the art viewing audience
in the UK and abroad. Our programmes typically feature first screenings
of short films, animations, and documentaries, alongside dance,
experimental broadcasts, anti-adverts and beyond.
But
we are more than a cinema collective. It is an ongoing project
about viewing and experimenting with film and other projections,
mixing film, video and light with other arts, and about exchanging
ideas.
We
aim to provide an arena for showing and performing works, and
for workshops that experiment with projections.
The
Projection Gallery – workshops and shows
Our
workshops use combinations of video, performance, dance, storytelling,
sculpture, internet and wireless technology,
interactive triggers, music, illustration, and puppetry, amongst
others.
We
focus on production, and playback and display of multi-media,
moving and still image works.
Some activities centre on themes to help establish interactive
dialogue between diverse media,
whereas others are more free and chaotic, establishing patterns
and rhythms through dialogue.
The
Projection Gallery – melting pot of ideas
The
Projection Gallery is a notional space which tours art locations
in the UK and overseas, in which remote participants collaborate.
At present, the Projection Gallery Project is being hosted by
V22 Gallery in London, a contemporary gallery group of outstanding
reputation. Submissions are constantly open, and have been received
from around the world.
The
Projection Gallery - A lasting legacy
The
Projection Gallery will once again provide a DVD round-up of time-based
and static works shown in Winter 2006-Spring 2007, alongside documentation,
vox pop, film extracts, mix-cd samples, audio, applications, and
interactive works. This will also contain a copy of the website.
This will be distributed to the contributing artists and arts
archives, whilst a retail version with full copyright permissions
will be available by pre-order and through the websites of The
Projection Gallery. Distribution of the proceeds will be between
artists, and selected charities. The new webspace is nearing completion,
and the project forum is soon to launch on the website as a repository
of ideas.
